Ohio Men's Basketball is off to a 1-6 start on the 2025-26 season, the worst start since the 1980-81 season.

after the games against loyola marymount and george mason one question remains. which team would win in a matchup between this team and the 1998 team? who thinks this team might be worse than the 98 team? i wouldn't be shocked if we finished out the season with a record worse than 5-21. to quote well known prince song, tonight they,re gonna play like it,s 1998.

That 1980-81 season was the first under Danny Nee, who replaced Dale Bandy. The 1979-80 team, Bandy's sixth and final season, saw the Bobcats finish 8-18. Nee started bringing in size and talent with a NYC/Philly/DC pipeline as Ohio followed up his rookie season (7-20) with win totals of 13, 23, 20, 22 and 22. Ohio won the MAC tourney in his 3rd and 5th seasons.

My freshman season saw the end of the Bandy era with Nee coming in my sophomore season, when Ohio won a combined 15 games. But the convo was rocking for my jr and sr years, including a Valentine's Day sellout crowd as Ohio beat DePaul in 1983.

Sorry, but OUr sorry start has me doing some reminiscing of OUr glory days. With Maine coming to Athens Wednesday, I showed my son Tommy Freeman's game-winning 3 v. Miami, and the students rushing the court. He said that that looks fun and he's hoping, as I am, we see such sights before he graduates from Ohio in 4 years.

Yup that is really the only question surrounding this team right now.

Combined Record of Opponents:
75% win percentage
Remove BC, 41-8 84%

DUKE's combined record of opponents: 29-25

I'm not ready to give Boals a lifetime contract, but I'm not dwelling on the whole season either. They played one of the toughest non-cons in the country. The MAC is our measuring stick. I'm still of the belief we will be fine in conference play.

1-6 is exactly where I thought they would be. Which of those games did you expect to win? 8-0 Mason? 7-0 Louisville? 8-1 SM? 7-2 Loyola?

I agree MDWST...although I will add some of the losses were a bit more ugly than I'd like. But the 1-6 record itself does not panic me. We should fare significantly better in December. An attainable goal would be to be 7-7 on New Years (yes I realize 2 of those wins are freebies).

Well stated!

The basketball only folks spend years bitching about the weak schedule. They get a schedule and they bitch about that. They spend 8 months slobbering over all thes talent and then tear it down before the first month of the season is even played.
